He was born on April 20th, 1939, to Sara and Leroy Fergesen in Clinton, Iowa.
Dave attended Cornell College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. During college he starred in several musicals and began a lifelong passion with singing. He also met the love of his life Mary Margaret (who also was attending Cornell College) and fell in love.
He married Mary Margaret Munch on September 9th, 1961, and they had three children, Jonathan, Robert, and Mark.
In the early sixties, he served in the United States Army in Korea as a Nike Missile technician and was honorably discharged in 1964.
David worked in paint formulation in Chicago, IL, adhesives at Johns-Manville Corporation in New Jersey and was awarded two patents while working at National Starch in water moistenable hot melt adhesives in 1973 and 1974. He successfully built and ran Fergesen Design Company, where he worked on a variety of projects until the early 2000’s. He passed on the entrepreneurial torch to his sons Robert and Mark.
Dave was a long-time member of the congregation of the Clover Hill Reformed Church. He sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served in the roles of Elder and Deacon. He also attended New Brunswick Theological Seminary and received his Certificate in Theological Studies in 2007. Dave loved to play golf and near the end he wanted to be sure everyone knew his passion for the game. He shared this passion with his son, Jon, and they played together many, many times.
