David R. Goldberg, age 86, died, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at home in Whitehouse Station, NJ.
Born, May 31, 1927 in Passaic, NJ, to Louis and Nettie (Pollner) Goldberg, David moved to Whitehouse Station more than ten years ago after living in Tewksbury, NJ for many years.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1946 to 1949.
David graduated from NYU in 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Mathematics and had an intensive graduate course at MIT for one year. He traveled around the United States and the world for various work assignments related to Systems Engineering and implementing new telecommunications systems. Most of his career was dealing with America's defense sectors. David was recognized in 1975 at the Bell Labs Kwajalein Field Station for services performed on behalf of our Nation's Defense Efforts, and he became a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff in 1984 for Bell Communications Research. He retired from Telecordia in 1992, but then worked as a consultant afterwards with Bellcore.
He was an avid traveler, gardener, stock market enthusiast, food and wine connoisseur, and devoted to his family. David was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
David was predeceased by his wife, Helene Goldring in 2007. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen Small and Mark Binkley of Middlesex, NJ; his son, Louis Goldberg of Chicago, IL; his daughter and partner, Marion Goldberg and Catherine Letren of Flemington, NJ; and his son, Jeffrey Goldberg of Whitehouse Station, NJ. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Steven Small and Michael Small, his step grandchild, Adam Binkley, and Catherine's daughter, Rinel Letren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, May 2, 2014 at Riverside Cemetery, 12 Market Street, Saddle Brook, NJ 07663. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
