Dermott P. O’Grady, of Basking Ridge, and formerly of Fords, New Jersey, passed away in the presence of his family on January 1, 2025, at the age of 94.
Dermott was born and raised in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, New York. Following graduation from Cardinal Hayes High School, Dermott served with the United States Army in Korea and was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran.
Dermott later resided in Fords, New Jersey for more than fifty years. He retired from Public Service Electric and Gas as a systems analyst in 1993. Prior to that, Dermott had worked as a ship’s carpenter for the Moore McCormick Lines and as a stereotyper with various New York City newspapers.
In retirement, Dermott traveled widely throughout the world. An avid photographer, Dermott enjoyed documenting his many trips with his camera. He was a past member of the Korean War Veterans Association and the American Aviation Historical Society.
Dermott was predeceased by his beloved wife of 40 years, Sheila, his father William and mother Gertrude, and his brother William. He is survived by a son Dermot and a daughter-in-law Nancy of Flemington, and a son William of Middletown, Connecticut. Dermott’s presence will be deeply missed by his family and fondly recalled by those who knew him.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, New Jersey. Interment will be held in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, New Jersey.
