~Dolores P. Hollender, age 97, of Raritan Township, N.J.~
Mema, as she was affectionately called, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020 at the Hunterdon Medical Center. Born in Newark, Dolores was raised in Madison and raised her family in Yardville and Delaware Township. She lived the remainder of her life in Raritan Township, with her son, Jon.
Dolores was born on June 26, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Virgil and Cora Vorro Pisapia and the sister of the late Roseann Proia.
Dolores loved teaching and education. She graduated Madison High School and the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station and received her Master’s Degree in teaching from Trenton State College aka The College of New Jersey. As part of the greatest generation, she supported the war effort by working at Westinghouse. She was an original Rosie the Riveter. Prior to her long career in teaching, Dolores also worked in the lab as a medical technician at St. Francis Hospital. She taught in schools in Madison, Atlantic City, Trenton and Lambertville, N.J. She also spread joy to countless students teaching piano throughout her long life. Dolores spent endless hours volunteering her time to help others at Hope House, Flemington, N.J. She loved jazzercize, coffee, tea and anything sweet. But loved her family more than anything.
She was the beloved mother to Jon (Raritan Township), Dolores Noboa (Union Twp, Hunterdon County), Peter (Cream Ridge), Joseph (Arvada, CO.), Henry (Lakewood, CO.) and Virgil (Jackson Township). She was a loving Mema to twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She thrilled her children and grandchildren at the holidays with her special stocking stuffers, spending countless hours finding that special present for each one of them.
