Donald R. Griffin

Donald R. Griffin, age 91 years, of Englewood, FL, died Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Tidewell Hospice there.

Born in Clinton, NJ, July 5, 1928, son of the late William and Helen Sherrerd Griffin, he had resided in the Flemington area most of his life, then moved to Belvidere, NJ for fifteen years where he and his wife became "snowbirds" traveling to Florida for several years until becoming permanent residents in Englewood, FL in 2015.

Don was a graduate of Clinton High School and served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.

Active for many years in Flemington area civic affairs, Don was a founding member and Past Secretary of the Raritan Township Fire Company and was a former two term member of the Raritan Township Committee serving as Mayor in 1975.

Don was also a member of the Flemington Baptist Church and a Past Master of the Sidney Grange.

Don was employed as a repairman and installer with the NJ Telephone Co., Flemington, NJ which later became United Telephone Co. and then Sprint. He retired after forty-five years of service.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-four years, Jane Bacorn Griffin; two daughters, Donna Vernon of Morriston, FL. and Susan Lizzi of Oxford, NJ; a son Dr. Jeffrey Griffin of Doylestown, PA and three grandchildren, Connor Griffin, Kayla Griffin and Thomas Lizzi.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at 11:30AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial will follow in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ. Calling hours will be Thursday 10:30AM-11:30AM at the funeral home.
