Doris Joan Russell

Doris Joan Russell, age 72 years, of High Bridge, NJ, passed away on February 13, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 14, 1950, in Phillipsburg, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Orren E. and Elsie B. (Hirth) Drake. A lifelong Hunterdon County, NJ resident, she grew up in Kingwood Township, NJ. Also resided in Frenchtown, NJ and Flemington, NJ before moving to High Bridge in 1976. She had lived in High Bridge for the last 46 years.

Doris was a graduate of Delaware Valley Regional High School with the Class of 1969. She married Roger W. Russell on November 20, 1971, and then was a homemaker, taking great care of Roger and her home. In her younger years, Doris enjoyed camping and roller skating at the Frenchtown Roller Rink. Later in life, she and Roger enjoyed watching movies and television together.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Jessamine Russell in 1972, and her siblings, Lloyd G. Lutz in 2005 and Sandra J. Zagarski in 2021.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Roger W. Russell; her beloved nephew Walter J. Russell, Jr. and her beloved niece Raquel Russell-Tonielli and her husband John, “who were like her children”, as well as nephews Yancy, Eric, Matthew and Roger Russell; her great-nieces Rachel M. Russell and Isabella G. Tonielli; her brothers-in-law Walter J. Russell Sr., and David R. Russell; and cousins Carole and her husband Gabriel “Dick” Nagy and Chuck and his wife JoAnn Schaible.

A graveside service and burial in the family plot in Frenchtown Cemetery, Trenton Avenue, Frenchtown, NJ will be scheduled some time in the spring or summer of 2023.

Memorial contributions in Doris’ memory may be made to a lung disease charity of one’s choice. PLEASE, NO FLOWERS.
