Dorothy A. Gazonas

Dorothy Angelica Gazonas, age 89, died Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Forest Hill Heights Assisted Living Facility in Forest Hill, MD.

Born April 2, 1934, in Dover, NH, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Dorothy Flevaris. As a girl she worked in her father’s “Drake candy shop” in Worcester, MA, where she later met and married her husband of 65 years, A. George Gazonas; for many years, she was the main administrative secretary at Fisher (now ThermoFisher) Scientific Company in Somerville, NJ.

Dorothy had many loves in her life, many of which centered around her family and traveling. She travelled extensively with her husband throughout the United States; loved the east coast beaches, where crabs and seafood were abundant, the Delaware Water Gap, EXPO 67 in Montreal, gatherings for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and annual trips to Greece to visit with family, friends and relatives in Paiania and Ambelonas, Greece.

Dorothy also loved embroidery, collecting lighthouse miniatures, and for many years served as treasurer for the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Philadelphia Chapter. She also frequently attended dances with her husband at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Hamilton, NJ where she was also a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, A. George Gazonas in 2019 and daughter, Nike Dionysia Gazonas in 2017. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George Aristotle and Demitra of Bel Air, MD, her four grandchildren, Aristotle and Dimitris Gazonas, and Andreas and Katerina Constantinou, her identical twin sister, Anastasia “Grace” Michalakeas, brother- and sister-in-law, Charles and Catherine Zarcone, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Viewing hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday afternoon, May 1, 2023 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A Trisagion service will be held at 5:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 2nd at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Road, Hamilton, NJ 08619. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ.
