Dorothy C. Gray, age 86 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died on March 18, 2007, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Nutley, NJ, July 9, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marie A. Bossong Cox, Sr. She had formerly resided in Pleasant Valley, NJ, and had been a resident of Readington Township for over fifty years.
She was first employed in the Radiology Department of the Hunterdon Medical Center, and later began a thirty-seven year career serving as Secretary of the Readington Township Board of Education and was later Readington Township Clerk/Administrator. She retired in 1992 and then returned to Readington Township School System for an additional year of service.
She wrote several grants for the Readington-Lebanon Sewer Authority and was recognized by the State of New Jersey Legislature for her high quality administrative performance in Readington Township.
An active volunteer and supporter of Habitat for Humanity, she also volunteered at Ships Soup Kitchen, Somerville, NJ. A member of the Three Bridges Reformed Church, Three Bridges, NJ, she was an original founder of the Three Bridges Christian Nursery School and was also instrumental in establishing the Three Bridges Library. She was an avid gardener and maker of jams and jellies.
Her husband, Edgar Gray, died in 1995. Surviving are a daughter, June Gray of Readington Township and New Hampshire; a son, Geoffrey Gray of Readington Township, NJ; a sister, Marie Saums of Readington Township, NJ; two brothers, Frank Cox, Jr. of Titusville, NJ, and Dr. Howard Cox of Bethlehem, PA; and two grandsons, Elliot Gray of Readington Township, NJ, and Sean Gray of Boston, MA.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 2 PM in the Three Bridges Reformed Church, Main Street, Three Bridges, NJ. Interment will be in Three Bridges Cemetery, Three Bridges, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 7-9 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
