It is with heartful sadness, but also joy at a life so well-lived, that Dorothy “Dottie” Bisher, passed away peacefully at the age of 67, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the Hunterdon Medical Center. She had been a resident of the Arc of Hunterdon group home located on Meadow Lane in Flemington for the past fifteen years.
Born on June 18, 1956, at March Air Force Base, Riverside County, California, she was the daughter of the late Lee Russell Bisher, Sr. and Elizabeth (Michell) Bisher. She had two siblings, Margaret “Peggy” Bisher and Lee Russell Bisher, Jr.
Dottie’s father was a career officer and pilot in the United States Air Force. Because of this, she traveled and lived in many places throughout her childhood. The family eventually made Flemington their home when her father became a commercial airline pilot.
During Dottie’s junior year in high school, she suffered a catastrophic mountain climbing accident and spent many years in the hospital. Her traumatic brain injury changed her life drastically, but she was able to use the adversity she had experienced to ground her and help her to not take things too seriously.
An incredibly strong, courageous, fun-loving, and free spirit, Dottie was a person who knew herself well, loved herself well, and lived each day fully. She will be dearly missed. Those who were lucky enough to have known Dottie were also lucky enough to be loved by her as well.
She is survived by her older sister, Peggy Bisher, and her nephew, Philip Roudabush, both of Northborough, Massachusetts. She also leaves behind many kind and wonderful friends, especially those at the ARC, who have been so supportive and loving to her over the years. They were her family as well.
Her father, Lee Russell Bisher, Sr., passed away on May 29, 1998; her younger brother, Lee , passed away on August 3, 2003; her mother, Elizabeth Michell Bisher , passed away on November 21, 2018.
A joint memorial service for Dottie, along with her mother Elizabeth, will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Immediately following the service, they will be interred together in the family plot at Fountain Grove Cemetery, 7 Fountain Grove Road, Glen Gardner, NJ. For those wishing to attend, a gathering of friends and family will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dottie’s memory may be made to The Arc of Hunterdon, 53 Frontage Road, Suite 150, Hampton, NJ 08827.
