Dr. Antonio A. Garzón

Dr. Antonio Garzón, Professor Emeritus of SUNY Downstate Medical School, passed away on March 14th 2018. He was 91 years old. Survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret (Joyce), his children: Paula and Ian, Fernando and Linda, Maria and Mark, Pedro and Karen. Grandchildren: Christopher and Michael, Manolo and Amalia, and Joshua. Dr. Garzón was a founding member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and Society of University Surgeons, and Director of Surgery, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Staten Island, from 1977 to 1994. He pioneered the characterization and treatment of traumatic chest injuries. Dr. Garzón has left a lasting legacy of patient care by his mentorship and medical research. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 12pm, St Catherine of Siena Parish Center, 142 Perryville Road, Hampton, NJ 08827. Cremation will be private on Monday, March 19.
