Edgar L. Van Zandt, age 80 years, of Plainsboro Township, NJ, died on Thursay, December 25, 2008 in Kindred Hospital, Havertown, PA
Born in Princeton, NJ, August 24, 1928, son of the late John Percy and Helen Benedict Van Zandt, he had resided in Plainsboro since 1998, having formerly lived in Flemington, NJ for many years.
A 1949 graduate of Cornell University, with a B.S. in Agriculture, Mr. Van Zandt owned and operated Van Zandt Sales & Service Company, first in Blawenburg, NJ, then in Raritan Township, NJ.
After selling his firm in 1980, he became a sales representative with Hobensack Farm Equipment, Warminster, PA.
Among Mr. Van Zandt's numberous civic activities, he was a longtime Treasuer for Habitat for Humanity, Trenton, NJ; was the former head of the Hunterdon County Housing Association where he was responsible for obtaining low-cost senior citizen housing in Flemington, NJ; was a longtime member of the Flemington Baptist Church; was a fifty plus year member of the Princeton Agricultural Society; was head of the Buildings & Roads Committee of Princeton Windrows, Plainsboro, NJ; was a former and Honorary member of the Flemington Rotary Club; was a member of the Princeton Old Guard; and was formerly the Treasurer of Thompson's Point Association, Charlotte, VT.
His wife of fifty-three years, Edna Gillett Van Zandt, died in 2005.
Surviving are two sons, David E. Van Zandt of Chicago, IL and Thomas R. Van Zandt of Redondo Beach, CA; two daughters, Mary V.Z. Wachterhauser of Havertown, PA and Shirley E. Van Zandt of Upperco, MD; a brother, John P. Van Zandt, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister, Elizabeth Adams of Greenville, SC; and six grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Blawenburg Reformed Church, 424 County Highway 518, Blawenburg, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
