Edward J. Hilton, Sr.

Edward J. Hilton, Sr., age 89 years, of Delaware Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Orange, NJ, January 23, 1919, son of the late Alfred and Mary McDermott Hilton, he had resided in Delaware Townhip since 1963.

Mr. Hilton was a retired Supervisor with the New Jersey Department of Agriculture for thirty years, retiring in 1984.

A United States Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a First Sergeant with the Field Artillery in the Pacific, he was a member of the Sergeantsville, NJ, V.F.W. Post. Additionally, Mr. Hilton was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lambertville, NJ; a member and Past President of the Lambertville-New Hope Rotary Club; former President of the Delaware Township Board of Education; and was a liason from the New Jersey Board of Agriculture to the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture for many years.

He and his wife, Estella Kent Hilton, recently received a Citation from the New Jersey Legislature congratulating them on their sixty years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph T. and Judith Hilton, Sr. of Lambertville, NJ and Michael and Jamie Hilton of Carlsbad, CA; a daughter, Patricia Hilton of Readington Township, NJ; two grandchildren, Joseph Hilton, Jr. and Mark Hilton; and two nephews, whom he and his wife raised, James Hilton of Cedar Grove, NJ and William Hilton, Sr. of Boca Raton, FL.

A son, Edward Hilton, Jr., died in 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Summer Road, Three Bridges, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery, Rosemont, NJ. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
