Edward Carl Serridge, a lifelong resident of Flemington, NJ, passed away on December 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Somerville, NJ, Ed attended Hunterdon Central High School and began working for Shop Rite as a meat cutter before being drafted to the United States Army, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a distinguished member of the 101st Airborne, the "Screaming Eagles." While stationed in Phu Bai, Vietnam, Ed fought bravely in A Shau Valley’s Hill 937, better known as “Operation Apache Snow” where he was wounded in action. His valor and heroism in combat were recognized with several honors, including the RVC Cross of Gallantry, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Purple Heart.
After his honorable discharge, Ed began a long and dedicated career with Colalillo Shop Rite, working in the meat department. Over his 42 years of service, he became a skilled meat cutter and played a key role in operations.
Ed was an active and proud member of his community, a dedicated friend and very giving individual. A life member of the American Legion Post 159, he served as Bar Steward for over a decade, supporting numerous family events that fostered lifelong memories and friendships. He was also a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7856.
A passionate outdoorsman, Ed loved hunting, fishing, and traveling with family and friends. He embarked on many adventures, including several trips to Alaska. Later in life, Ed enjoyed continued fishing trips and spending time at the Tactical Training Center in Flemington, NJ, where he continued to hone his marksmanship and skills in weaponry.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edward B. and Betty Jean Serridge, lifelong residents of Flemington, NJ, and his brother, Patrick W Serridge. He is survived by his son, Edward J. Serridge; his daughter, Denise M. Serridge; the mother of his children, Theresa M. Russo of Kingston, NJ; his sister, Linda S. Bucher of Hopewell, NJ; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Always a proud American, Ed instilled a deep love for his country in his children, who will carry on his legacy with pride.
In lieu of flowers, Ed requested that donations be made to a Veteran’s Charity or Food Pantry of your choice in his memory.
