Eleanor Drake Selfridge, age 104 years, of Charlotte Harbor, FL, died on June 21, 2017 at Life Care Center of Punta Gorda, Florida.
She was born in Plainfield, NJ, on June 1, 1913, and had resided in Charlotte Harbor for the past 35 years, having formerly lived in Plainfield, Bridgewater, and Pt. Pleasant, NJ, for many years.
Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, and a hard-working, homemaker devoted to her husband and children. She was a longtime member of the Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant, NJ. She was an avid bowler who bowled until the age of 89, and an enthusiastic Atlanta Braves fan. Eleanor was a strong, independent and caring woman, who drove until the age of 90, and loved gardening, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.
She and her husband, Edward B. Selfridge, were a very active couple, spending six months of the year in New Jersey and six months in Florida for many years after his retirement from the Humble Oil and Refining Company. He died in 1998 after sixty-two years of marriage. Everyone who met Eleanor loved her and will miss her kind, unselfish, generous heart.
In addition to her husband, Eleanor was pre-deceased by a daughter, Carolyn in 1999. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Edward B. Selfridge, Jr., and Elizabeth Selfridge of Forked River, NJ; a son, Wayne G. Selfridge of Delran NJ; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ. There are no calling hours.
