Elizabeth E. Metzner

Elizabeth “Bette” Metzner, age 95 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, March 25, 1928, daughter of the late Philipp and Elizabeth Muckenmuller Zeilfelder, Bette had formerly resided in Colonia, NJ and had resided in the Flemington area for thirty-four years.

She was first employed by Prudential Insurance Co., Menlo Park, NJ and then was a department secretary at Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, NJ for several years.

Bette was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Flemington, NJ, the Flemington Woman’s Club, the Union Township Senior Citizens and the Flemington Senior Center Dine & Chat Group.

Her husband, Robert A. Metzner, whom she married in 1951, died in 2000. She was also pre-deceased by her brother, Tom Zeilfelder.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Robert Johmann and a son, Thomas Metzner, all of Flemington, NJ. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Douglas (Jamie) Johmann, Kurtis (Tania) Johmann, and Kirsten Johmann; as well as four great-grandchildren, Declan, Mila, Aria and Hudson Johmann.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 11:00 AM in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Monday 4:00-8:00 PM at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
