Elizabeth Margaret (Hensel) Tinnes went to rest in the arms of her Savior on August 27, 2022.
Betty was born on January 21, 1934 near Sergeantsville, New Jersey to the late Paul and Katherine (nee Balg) Hensel. Betty attended the Green Sergeants School and graduated from Flemington High School in 1951. Upon graduation she began working at Preservaline Manufacturing Company, later Presco Food Seasonings, on Church Street in Flemington. While there, she worked with Rose (Tinnes) Hayes, who introduced Betty to the former’s brother, William P. Tinnes. She often recollected that upon first seeing him coming out of the barn she thought “and that’s the man I want to marry.” Betty and Bill were duly married on March 21, 1954 at the Flemington Baptist Church.
Betty and Billy settled into life at “the Farm” in Pittstown. While Bill farmed, Betty worked at Presco until their daughters Wendy and Kim were born. However, she returned to Presco in 1963 and continued working there, retiring as customer service manager in 2007. Betty loved her work and the many people she met there over the years, but she also loved being at home, baking away.
Betty was born a Lutheran and as a child she attended the Amwell Church of the Brethren. When she married William and moved to Pittstown she began attending Cherryville Baptist Church, where she was baptized in 1968. The transformative Love of Christ was deeply felt in Betty, and moved her to service. Whether it was chairing the Deacons, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, cooking for Thankful Sunday, or arranging flowers, serving the Lord and His people was her true delight.
Betty is survived by her sister Emma Case of Brodbecks, PA, children Wendy Tinnes and Chester Kepczynski of Pittstown, NJ Kimberly Tinnes and Donna Caroll of Grovesville, and grandson Kyle Tinnes of Pittstown, NJ.
