Elizabeth Marion

Elizabeth (Betty) Marion was born December 22, 1928 at her parent’s farmhouse on Bowne Station Road Stockton, NJ. On, August 18, 2015 Betty walked her last earthly pasture to join her mother and other loved ones in their heavenly home.

Betty spent all but the last 3 years on the farm. She embraced the hard work on the farm, milking cows, baling hay, stacking hay, chopping corn, driving tractors, feeding cows and chickens, picking eggs. She also spent many hours in the family garden. During sweet corn season she helped pick and shuck over 1,000 ears at a time to put up for freezing. She kept a clean home and the only chore she seldom did was the cooking.

Betty loved all the animals she had on the farm, even the cows that threw her and her mother in the air. She had many pets; goats, dogs, cats, guinea hens, ferrets, ducks, geese and she enjoyed the beauty of the peacocks.

She had jobs as a Trenton Times paper deliverer, cleaner at Colligan’s Stockton Inn, Frenchtown Inn, Kingwood Inn, Hotel in the Woods. She waited table at Kingwood Inn and worked at the L & S variety store in Flemington. She volunteered at Mt. Airy Church’s Vacation Bible School, helping with snacks for the children and at her sons baseball snack bar.

She raised 3 children who each have fond memories of their time with her. She spent many hours watching her sons play baseball and getting her daughter to 4-H. She especially loved the 3 grandsons who lived on the farm with her, Wayne, Matthew and Christopher and her 2 nieces Carol and Nancy.

Betty is survived by her children Wayne J. Marion, Kathleen Johnson and her husband Jim, John P. Marion and his wife Antoinette; a sister, Anna Van Doren. She had 7 grandchildren one which preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by a brother, Jacob Hiltey.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 21, 2015 at 12 noon in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ, followed by burial in St. Magdalen Cemetery, Flemington. Calling hours will be from 11:30 am to 12 noon Friday at the funeral home.
