Elizabeth Stone Becker, age 88 years, of Holland Township, NJ, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, in Bridgeway Care Center, Bridgewater Township, NJ.
Born in Miami, Florida, April 28, 1924, daughter of the late Stewart S. and Paula Markowitz Stone, she had formerly resided in Montclair, NJ and West Orange, NJ, before moving to Holland Township in 1991.
She was formerly Director of Finance & Development for the National Board of the YWCA and later for the American Liver Foundation.
She founded Women in Philanthropy (the first non-profit for women's fund raising) and was an avid duplicate bridge player and scrabble player.
Her husband, Joseph J. Becker, Sr., died in 1998.
Surviving are two daughters, Paula Alexander of Annandale, NJ, and Elizabeth Sobin of Milford, NJ; two sons, Joseph John Becker, Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fl. and Theodore Hall Becker of Mt. Pocono, Pa.; two sisters, Peggy Williams of Syracuse, NY, and Pat Drake of Fredericksburg, Va.; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
