Elsie H. Manners

EAST AMWELL TWP. - Elsie H. Manners died Nov. 13, 2002 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 75. Born in Potterstown, she was the daughter of John and Jennie Lindabury Haver. She lived in East Amwell since 1945 on Terraceland Farm, which she ran with her husband Robert until his death in 1990. Her son, R. Gregory Manners has run the farm with her ever since. The farm was host to farm tours for many years. Mrs. Manners and her husband received the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce's Golden Award in 1990 in recognition of their civic involvement. She was a 1944 graduate of Flemington High School. Mrs. Manners was a bus driver for Hunterdon Central High School and East Amwell School for many years. She was a member of the Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ringoes. She was secretary of the East Amwell Board of Education from 1956 to 1966, and a member of the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture, serving as chair of its Dairy Princess Committee. Mrs. Manners was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Amwell Valley Fire Company; treasurer of Union Cemetery in Wertsville; a trustee of the Hunterdon Medical Center from 1979 to 1986; and a member of the New Jersey Farm Bureau. In addition to her son, she is survived by a daughter, Deborah Lentine of East Amwell; two sisters, Margaret Cobb of Annandale and Carol Fraze of Lebanon; and two grandchildren. Services were held Monday at the church. Burial was in Union Cemetery under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home of Flemington.
