It is with great sadness that the family of Emma Roethel, age 98, announces her passing at home on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. She was a longtime resident and active member of the Delaware Township, NJ community.
Born June 11, 1920 in Lichtenbaugh, Austria, daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Stonich Marinzel, Emma came to the United States at the age of seventeen. She married Joseph Roethel on September 14, 1941.
Together with her husband, Emma owned and operated grape, chicken and dairy farms in Hunterdon County. They were also the owners of the Coryell Inn in Lambertville, NJ and the Town Tavern (Ship’s Inn) in Milford, NJ. After more than twenty years, Emma retired from Lipton in Flemington, NJ.
She loved to travel and dance. Her family was her most cherished accomplishment.
Her husband Joseph Roethel died in 1977.
She will forever be remembered by her sons, Joseph Roethel of Sterling, PA and Wilhelm Roethel of Stockton, NJ, daughter-in-law Kathy, grandchildren Joseph, Rick, Carla, Susan, Kathleen and Wilhelm Jr. and her 16 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM in St. John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Lambertville, NJ. Interment will follow in St. Magdalen Cemetery, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2:00-5:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 215 NJ-31, Flemington, NJ.
