Ernest A. Del Monte, age 87, died Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at his home in Raritan Township surrounded by his family, and under the peaceful care of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born December 12, 1932 in Raritan Borough NJ, Ernest was the only child of the late Joseph and Emma (De Lorenzo) Del Monte.
After a neighborhood girl caught his eye, Ernest eventually was able to court Michalina (“Lina”) Papera and the two were married in St. Ann’s Church in Raritan Borough soon after. The two lived in the Hunterdon County area for many years, including Ringoes NJ where the couple had many animals including many cats, goats, chickens, geese, rabbits, and other wild creatures.
Ernest served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He was a self-employed General Contractor for many years until his retirement.
Some of the things that Ernest did for many years included playing the ukulele, listening to easy music on the radio, reading newspapers, magazines, and health books, riding his motorcycle, following the sport of boxing, and taking his small boat out on his pond to fish. Regardless of where he was, Ernest was always smiling; and that smile will be remembered by all that had the privilege of knowing him.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Lina Del Monte, his two daughters, Corrine Sapone of New York, and Lorraine Aquino of Flemington NJ, his three grandchildren, Michael, Kylie, and Alivia Sapone, as well as his brother-in-law, Donnie and his sister-in-law, Mary.
Cremation and services will be private under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street in Flemington NJ.
