Ernest Friend Smith, Jr.

Ernest Friend Smith, Jr., age 77 years, of Flemington, NJ, died on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the home of his daughter in Kingwood Township, NJ with his loving family by his side.

Born in Nanticoke, PA, December 24, 1933, son of the late Ernest F. and Nancy Lee Roberts Smith, Sr. He had resided in Flemington since 2003 and had formerly lived in Lake Forest, CA.

He was retired from the United States Air Force were he served from 1950 to 1975. He served in Korea during the Korean War. After retirement he was a letter carrier with the Carteret, NJ Post Office, retiring in 1989.

His wife, who he met while they were both serving in the Air Force, Mary B. Foy Smith, died in 2009.

Surviving are a daughter, Claire Donnelly of Kingwood Township, NJ; three sons, Ernest Smith III of Flemington, NJ, Thomas J. Smith of Lake Forest, CA, and Brian Patrick Smith of the Czech Republic; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters; Janice Scheier of Woodbridge, NJ and Nancy Burke of Carteret, NJ.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday March 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hunterdon Christian Church, 71 Summer Road, Readington Township, NJ. Interment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
