Estelle Katcher

Estelle Katcher, age 86 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Friday, April 27, 2018, at her home.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, January 4, 1932, daughter of the late Alexander and Birdie Levine Sklar, she had resided in the Flemington area for fifty-nine years.

A 1955 graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a BA degree in Journalism, she formerly was a journalist with the Sun-Gazette, Williamsport, PA and later at the Farm Journal, Philadelphia, PA.

An enthusiastic community volunteer, she was active at the Red Mill Museum, Clinton, NJ; the Friends of the Hunterdon County Library, and the Family Nursing Service (now the Hunterdon Home Health Services). Additionally, Estelle was a member of Or Chadash, the Reform Temple of Hunterdon County, and was a former member of the Hunterdon Central High School Board of Education. She was a former board member and Life Trustee of the Hunterdon Art Museum and was a member of the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission.

Her husband, Avrum Katcher, MD, died in 2010.

Surviving are three daughters, Ruth Katcher and her husband, Jeffrey Newell, of Brooklyn, NY, Susan Katcher and her husband, Bradford White, of Newton, MA, and Eva Katcher and her husband, Kevin Donohue, of Clarksburg, MD; a son, Daniel Katcher and his wife, Risa Sherman of Needham, MA; a brother, Leonard Sklar and his wife, Marcia, of Redwood City, CA; and her grandchildren, Henry Newell of Brooklyn, NY, Liana and Melissa Butchard of Newton, MA, Laura Donohue of Clarksburg, MD, and William, Nolan and Lucy Katcher of Needham, MA.

Memorial services will be held Friday, May 25, 2018, at 10:00AM at Or Chadash Reform Temple, Highway 31, Readington Township, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822, the Hunterdon Art Museum, 7 Lower Center Street, Clinton NJ, 08809 or to the Red Mill Museum, 56 Main Street, Clinton, NJ 08809.
