Ethel A. Martin

Ethel A. Martin, age 69 years, of Buckingham Township, PA, died on Monday, August 23, 2004 at Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born April 21, 1935 in Trenton, NJ to the late Charles E. Burd, Jr. and Carrie Melroy Burd, she had resided in Buckingham Township, PA since 1998, having previously resided in Raritan Township, NJ for over forty years.

She grew up on her family dairy farm in Harbourton, NJ and was a graduate of Central High School of Hopewell Township, NJ.

Mrs. Martin worked as a secretary for Tenneco in Raritan Township for thirteen years; was the Raritan Township Tax Clerk in 1981, the Assistant Tax Collector in 1983, and the Tax Collector from 1992 until her retirement in 1998;She also worked as a secretary for Calvary Baptist Church, Flemington, NJ and did bookkeeping work for Frank Barlow, CPA, Flemington, NJ.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Flemington, NJ; the Pennington Grange; Mercer County Pomona Grange; the NJ State Grange; and the Central Bucks Senior Citizens.

Her husband, George Martin, Sr., died in 1996, and a grandson, Donald P. Sturdavant died in 2001. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George Martin, Jr. and Janice Logan Martin of Flemington, NJ; two daughters, Beverly Martin of Raritan Township, NJ and Sandra Martin of Bordentown, NJ; a granddaughter, Carrie Martin of Flemington, NJ; two brothers, Charles E. Burd III of Dundee, NY and Clarence Burd of North Wildwood, NJ; and a sister, Lydietta (Peg) Burd of Doylestown, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemtery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Please visit www.holcombefisher.com for further information.
