Evelyn S.R.E. Nelson

Evelyn S.R.E. Nelson, age 86, died Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Township NJ.

Born January 12, 1937 in Perth Amboy NJ, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Samuel and Evelyn (Deering) Nelson. She grew up in Colonia NJ before moving to West Palm Beach FL, Englishtown NJ, the East Village in New York City, Flemington NJ and eventually to Frenchtown NJ.

Evelyn was a world traveler; she took a job with Pan-Am Airlines first in Airport Communications, Passenger Airport 1st Class Representative and then in Client Reservations in the Pan Am Building in New York City, where she helped people plan their complete vacations. Her international travels took her to most parts of the globe, and she also visited 39 states in the USA.

Evelyn was a volunteer as well, she volunteered at Hunterdon Prevention Resources, the Hunterdon YMCA, the Hunterdon Medical Center, and the Hunterdon Senior Center. She also enjoyed participating in activities at Hunterdon Senior Center. as well as at the Upper Bucks Senior Center in Pennsylvania.

She loved reading, writing (and typing!) stories and poetry, treating herself to a good ‘Spa-Day!’, listening to Country & Western music, but most of all, she loved being on the computer. She first used a computer in the 1960’s and would often continue to use the DOS commands to complete her tasks. Most of all, Evelyn also enjoyed spending time and laughing with her grandson Joseph and her daughter Evelyn.

Being raised on a farm, she had a love for gardening and all animals, especially cows, goats, chickens, other farm animals and her daughter Evelyn Jr’s horse which followed her around like a puppy.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her brothers, Samuel and Charles Nelson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn (also known as Little Evelyn by family) and Bill Hart of Revere PA, her grandson, Joseph Hart, her brother, James Nelson of Cheshire CT, as well as several nieces and nephews here in the United States and cousins in Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia.

Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822, followed by a funeral service at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Cremation will follow privately.
