Evelyn Szokol

Evelyn Szokol (nee Gabor), age 93 years, of Palmer Township, PA. died Tuesday, September 13, 2016, in Easton, PA. Born in Budapest, Hungary, she emigrated to the United States with her husband, the late Charles Szokol, in 1950. Evelyn' Aunt, the late Julia Jehl, sponsored Evelyn and her husband for US citizenship. Evelyn moved to Phillipsburg, NJ in 1952 to raise her family, then to Palmer Township in 1986. Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper for many years in Hungary and later in Easton, PA. She was a voracious reader, avid gardener, a loving mother, and a kind person to all who encountered her. Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and David Carrington of Summit, NJ; her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Cynthia Szokol of Glen Gardner, NJ; her three granddaughters, Noelle, Emily and Grace; and her grandson, Bradley. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Tommie, Jake and Annie, and two nieces, Suzana and Eva of Budapest, Hungary. Cremation arrangements and memorial services will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
