Felice G. Salerno, MD, age 83 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Sunday, September 11, 2016, at his home.
Born in Belleville, NJ, March 21, 1933, son of the late Alfonse and Philomena Ramo Salerno, Dr. Salerno was a Surgeon at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township from 1970 until he retired in 2005.
He received his BS in Biology and his medical degree from Georgetown University and served his surgical residency at Baylor University, Waco, Texas. Dr. Salerno was a Fellow with the American College of Surgeons; was Chair of the Dept. of Surgery at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ 1977-1987 and was President of the Medical Staff of Hunterdon Medical Center 1987-1989. Dr. Salerno was also a member of the Hunterdon Medical Center Board of Trustees 1978-1984.
The author of several medical treatises, he served as an Army Surgeon 1967-1970 during the Vietnam War and was named one of the eleven top surgeons by NJ Medical Magazine in 1996.
He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Jeanne Restuccia and Rose Natale, and a brother, Alexander Salerno.
Surviving are his wife, Christina Hoffmann Salerno; two sons, Marc Salerno of Parkland, FL, and Alessandro Salerno of Riva, MD; a brother, Ralph Salerno of Bloomfield, NJ; a sister, Palma Padula of Lakewood, NJ; and three grandchildren, Megan, Jennifer and Alec Ryan Salerno.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 10:30 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 63 Franklin Street, Belleville, NJ. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ. Calling hours will be Wednesday 2:00-4:00 PM & 6:00-8:00 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
