Florence T. “Terry” Ownes, age 93 years, of Flemington, NJ died peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at her home surrounded by her son Terry, daughter-in-law Ginger, and granddaughter Briana.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, February 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Michael F. and Helen (Golomb) Teresinski. She had resided in the Flemington area since 1953.
Terry attended East Stroudsburg University and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Health & Human Development. She started her career as a physical education teacher at Flemington High School in 1953 and later at Hunterdon Central Regional High School. She was formerly associated with the Rug Mart Inc., Flemington, NJ as well.
She was dedicated to her family, enjoyed skiing, and was a communicant of St. Magdalen Church in Flemington.
She was predeceased by her husband, the late Clarence L. “Bud” Ownes, who died in 2011, as well as her brother, the late Thomas Teresinski, who died in 2002.
Surviving are her three children and their spouses, Terry and Ginger Ownes, of Flemington, NJ, Dorothy Ownes and Michael Gagliardi, of Golden, CO, and Scott and Susan Ownes, of Boston, MA; five grandchildren, Briana Ownes, of Arlington, VA, Paul Gagliardi, of Golden, CO, Michael Ownes, of Seattle, WA, Kaitlin Ownes, of Boston, MA, and Matthew Ownes, also of Boston, MA; as well as her sister, Dorothy Carroll, of Dallas, PA. The family would also like to thank her caregiver, Lorraine Cort.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ at 10:30 AM officiated by Fr. James De Fillipps. Committal services and interment of her ashes at St. Magdalen Mausoleum will follow.
Memorial contributions in Terry’s name may be made to Hunterdon Hospice, 215 NJ-31, Flemington, NJ 08822.
