Floyd F. Menchek, age 80 years, of Linvale, NJ, died on Friday, August 23, 2013 in the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, NJ.
Born at home in Linvale, NJ, September 13, 1932, son of the late Vincent, Sr. and Claudina Schwarz Menchek, he was a lifelong area resident.
A 1951 graduate of Flemington High School, Flemington, NJ, Mr. Menchek was the former proprietor of Menchek’s General Store, Linvale, NJ which was family owned and operated for almost 100 years. He was also a self-employed farmer and excavator.
A former longtime East Amwell Township Committeeman, he also served as Mayor of the township. Very involved in Hunterdon County, Mr. Mencheck was a longtime member of the Amwell Valley Fire Co., Ringoes, NJ; he served as a Supervisor for the Hunterdon County Soil Conservation Dept, and was currently serving as its Vice-Chair; was a member of the Board of Directors of Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., Flemington, NJ; and served on the Board of Directors of the Harbourton Cemetery Association.
Surviving are his wife of twenty-five years, Judy Snyder Menchek; a step-son, Richard Pellichero of Ewing, NJ; three sisters, Jean Sprince of Brookfield, CT; Elizabeth Bernhard of Raritan Township, NJ and Barbara Lovrinic of Lambertville, NJ; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Menchek, Jr. and three sisters, Geraldine, Dorothy and Nancy.
Graveside Services will take place Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Harbourton Cemetery, Harbourton, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amwell Valley Fire Co., P.O. Box 50, Ringoes, NJ, 08551.
