Former Flemington resident, beloved mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, passed from this earthly life on December 31, 2020, in California at the age of 91 due to a recent fall and complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Mary, as she was known to many, was a long-time resident of Flemington, NJ, and a loyal employee of Flemington National Bank for 30 years.
Mary is survived by her children: James Mironchik of Hamburg, Germany; Teresa Higgins of Sacramento, California; Anne Mironchik of Allentown, PA; Frances Mironchik of Sacramento, California; she has a son-in-law, Craig Higgins, a granddaughter, Alina Higgins, both of Sacramento California; a brother, Joseph Zagari, of Barnegat, New Jersey, and a loving extended family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, George Mironchik (1927-2006) and her granddaughter, Marisa Higgins (1994-2014).
Born Frances Mary Zagari in 1929, she grew up on a farm in Somerville, NJ, surrounded by a large extended family of Southern Italian heritage. She loved music, singing in school and church choirs, venturing into New York City for the opera, Broadway shows, and the movies of the '40's and '50's. A chance meeting at a dance hall in 1954 brought Mary and her future husband, George Mironchik, together, and they were married in 1956. While raising her children, Mary was involved in the PTA and school functions at Franklin Township School in Quakertown, NJ. She instilled music in her children by making piano lessons a part of all their lives.
Mary's love of the arts was evident in her appreciation for a variety of music, attending concerts and operas her entire life. Likewise the visual arts, regularly visiting local and national galleries and museums.
She was a sports fan all her life, whether playing bocci games at summer family picnics, or in the winter on weekend outings to the local bowling alley. She was a New York Yankees fan like her sisters Nancy and Connie, and also enjoyed going to local minor league games, or watching the world series. After her granddaughter graduated from Gonzaga University she watched and enjoyed March Madness and was a fan of college basketball.
At home, Mary enjoyed many hobbies including reading, gardening, and bird watching. She was always up for a trip, via car or plane, and was the first one of her family to go to southern Italy and Australia to meet her cousins. Large family gatherings during the holidays were especially festive and her favorite traditions and recipes are proudly carried on by her children.
Her life after retirement centered around meeting friends for lunch, and daily mass at St. Magdalen's Catholic Church. She loved volunteering, especially at St. Magdalen's and at Hunterdon Medical Center until 2015, when she relocated to Sacramento to live with Frances and be near Teresa and her family. She resided at and was loved by the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living and Memory Care in Sacramento from 2017-2020. Throughout her life, Mary's love of music never ebbed, but it was always her smile that brought smiles to those around her.
Any donations are greatly appreciated in Mary's name to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater New Jersey,
