Francis J. “Frank” Haughey, age 77 years, of Barnegat Light, NJ, died on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at his daughter’s residence in Readington Township, NJ.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, April 6, 1930, son of the late Francis V. and Helen Rogers Haughey, he had resided in Barnegat Light for the past five years, having previously lived in Readington Township, NJ.

A Professor in Health Physics at Cook College, Rutgers University, Dr. Haughey specialized in Analytical Physics. He retired in 1995 after thirty-seven years of service and became a Professor Emeritus of the department.

A former Eagle Scout, Dr. Haughey went on to serve as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. A member of the Health Physics Society, he did research on the effects of radiation upon animals and the ecological life of the Bikini Islands. Other hobbies and interests included astronomy, building model planes, playing the piano and breeding Bassett hounds.

His wife, Claire Fox Haughey, whom he married on June 16, 1950, died in 1999.

Surviving are six children and their spouses, Claire and Kevin Conway of Flemington, NJ, Francis and Beth Haughey of San Clemente, CA, Dennis and Linda Haughey of Pittstown, NJ, Barbara and David Derkacz of Hillsborough, NJ, Timothy and Sandy Haughey of Wanamassa, NJ and Kathleen and Eric Eannone of Readington Township, NJ; fourteen grandchildren, Brian Derkacz, Kristen Haughey, Megan Haughey, Kyle Derkacz, Michael Haughey, Caitlin Conway, Stephanie Haughey, Nicole Derkacz, Tyler Haughey, Christopher Haughey, Josh Haughey, Courtney Eannone, Justin Eannone and Rachel Eannone; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Kay Haughey of Estes Park, CO; and his companion, Helen Sedlowski of Barnegat Light, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
