Gail Ida Justin (nee August) passed away peacefully at her Phillipsburg, NJ home after a long and courageous six-year battle with cancer. With her beloved family by her side, Gail went to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 21, 2024. She was 84 years old.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Justin Sr. Together, Gail and George Sr. raised a loving family. She is survived by her children: daughter Charlotte A. Justin and son George A. Justin, Jr (Monica). Gail is also survived by her sister Joan August and sister-in-law Selina Lotito.
“Granny Gail” lived simply and put her family first above all things. She will forever be missed by her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ashley Baker (Stephen), and their children Aubrey, Walker, Emmitt, Cooper, and Clyde; Brittany Pulley (James), and their children Phoenix, Axton, and Onyx; Gabriella Watt (Derek), and their children Logan, Brayden, and their baby girl due in April; and Gail’s grandson George Alexander Justin and his fiancé Taylor King. Gail is also survived by many nephews and great-nieces.
Additionally, our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to our close family friend Robert (Bob) Mills for the exceptional care and support he provided to Gail and our family over the years.
Born and raised in Paterson, NJ, Gail was the daughter of the late John and Frieda August. She served 25 years as a Sheriff’s Officer with the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office and was a member of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of New Jersey. Affectionately regarded by her family as “Mother Nature”, Gail was a true nature-lover and appreciated all the beauty the world has to offer. In her spare time, Gail liked listening to music of all genres. She enjoyed visiting local flea markets and yard sales. Above all, she found the most comfort and joy making lasting memories in the presence of her beloved family. Some of her fondest memories included her many family trips to the “seashore” in Wildwood, NJ.
With the support of her loved ones, Gail spent her final years battling cancer with grace, dignity, and courage. Her kind soul and positive attitude touched the lives of many, including her hospice nurses Diane and Sue. We are grateful for the help and companionship they provided Gail. Gail would want all of us to remember her with happiness and laughter, rather than sorrow and tears. She would want us to find comfort in knowing she is free from pain and home with her family gone before her, including her treasured dog “Honey”. Gail will always continue to bring sunshine into our lives. We will miss her witty sense of humor, her contagious laugh, and her comforting nature.
Granny walked through life with a gentle strength that she instilled in her family through the way she lived. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness. She will never be forgotten because she will live in our hearts forever.
