George E. Carkhuff

George E. Carkhuff, age 87 years, of Pennington, NJ, died Sunday, May 17, 2020, at the Atrium of Hamilton, Hamilton Township, NJ.

Born in Hopewell, NJ, September 28, 1932, son of the late Orville and Mary Reed Carkhuff, George had formerly resided in West Amwell Township, NJ 1968-2017 and then moved to Pennington, NJ in 2017.

A graduate of Michigan State University, he was a former Prudential Insurance agent and farmer who loved the outdoors and farming. After retirement, he and his wife, Roxanne, visited many of America’s national parks.

George served with the US Army as an air traffic controller in Hawaii during the Korean War.

George was a former member of the Twin Hemlocks Hunting Club and was a founding member of the Holcombe-Jimison Farmstead, Lambertville, NJ.

His wife, Roxanne Kenney Carkhuff, died in 2017 and he was also pre-deceased by a brother, Orville Carkhuff and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jody Furch.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Colleen and Charles Conrad of Titusville, NJ; his sisters, Maryanna Twomey of Lambertville, NJ, Wilma Radvany of Hightstown, NJ, Kathleen McBurney of Pennington, NJ and a brother, Dean Carkhuff and his wife, Maryann, of Hopewell, NJ. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Bettysue Carkhuff of Yardley, PA and many nieces and nephews.

Committal services with Military Honors will be held promptly at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA. Please gather no later than 1:15 pm at the cemetery.

Due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic, anyone attending the service will need to wear a mask and practice physical distancing.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
