George H. Bertelson, age 80 years, of Newark, DE, died on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in Christianna Hospital, Newark, DE.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, May 26, 1927, son of the late John H. and Arnhild Haaheim Bertelson, he had been a longtime resident of Branchburg, NJ prior to moving to Newark, DE several months ago.

A United States Naval Veteran of World War II, Mr. Bertelson worked as a member of the Dock Builder's Union # 1456, New York City, NY. He was also a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flemington, NJ.

George was a loving husband,father, brother and grandfather. He leaves behind many good friends as well. He was passionate about his work which is proudly displayed all over New Jersey and New York. An avid golfer, George loved to play with his boys and grandchildren - and, for that matter, anyone else willing to come along! He will most certainly be missed

His wife of fifty-six years, Thordis (Teddy) Framnes Bertelson, died in 2004; a son, Kevin Bertelson, died earlier as well as his step-mother, Amanda Hansen.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Corlee B. and David Louder of Red Bank, NJ and Karen B. and Michael Roberts of Newark, DE; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark E. and Patty Bertelson of East Brunswick, NJ and Jeff and Annette Bertelson of Hartland, WI; a brother, Roy M. Bertelsen of Saylorsburg, PA; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 Highway 31, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
