George J. Gardner

George J. Gardner, age 70, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at home in Delaware Township NJ.

George was born May 20, 1943 in Newark, NJ, to Robert Woodward and Catherine Gardner. He was the owner and operator of the steel erector company, Gar Con Enterprises Inc. of Flemington. He was very proud of his many long-standing business relationships, especially with Clayton Concrete & Block. His many projects included clients such as Flemington Department Store, the doctor’s office building at Hunterdon Medical Center and at Rikers Island in New York.

He was a fishing “maniac,” and could be found in Beach Haven aboard his fishing boat, “Outrageous,” and it was there that he was a long-time member of the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club. A few years ago, George was able to have the “experience of a lifetime” - driving a race car for 16 laps at Daytona Motor Speedway.

Predeceased by his parents, George is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Kahlke), his children, George Gardner, Jr. of Porter, TX, Teresa Hansen of Brazoria, TX, Kate DeVane of Jacksonville, FL, and Kyle Gardner of Milford, NJ. He is also survived by three grandchildren and his brother, Lawrence Gardner of Bellaire, TX.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Calvary Episcopal Church, corner of New York Avenue and Broad Street in Flemington. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ. Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Monday evening at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
