Dr. George J. Sabol, Jr., D.D.S., long-time resident of Flemington, NJ, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021, in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ. He was 83 years old.
Born in Edwardsville, PA on January 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Mary McCloskey and George J. Sabol, Sr. George had formerly resided in Berlin, Germany and Schoharie, NY before moving to the Flemington area in July of 1969.
As a young man, he attended Upsala College in East Orange, NJ where he played football. He then went on to The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine where he played rugby. Finally, he went into the United States Army Dental Corps, serving in Germany from 1963-1968. After his service, he opened a dental practice in Flemington and was an active dentist locally until 2020.
He was a communicant of St. Magdalen RC Church, Flemington, a former member of the Flemington Elks Lodge #1928, and member of the American Dental Association.
A man of many interests, he was an avid outdoorsman. He and his late wife loved traveling, skiing, hiking, biking, and sailing. In addition, he also enjoyed football, especially being a Pop Warner football coach. Moreover, he also had a musical inclination. He played the piano, the accordion and appreciated classical music. Lastly, he loved to dance to the polka, which was a tribute to his Eastern European roots.
He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-seven years, Susan M. Sabol, who died in 2019.
Surviving are four sons and four daughters-in-law, George III and Sherri Sabol of Virginia Beach, VA, Robert and Tara Sabol of Landgrove, VT, Jeffrey and Cynthia Sabol of Flemington, NJ and Kevin and Kirsten Sabol of Seattle, WA; eleven grandchildren, Madison, Morgan, Mackinley, Christopher, Brooke, Hayley, Matthew, Jacquelyn, Jeffrey, Finnesey and Elinor; two great grandchildren, Keller and Grayson and a third on the way; a sister-in-law, Sandra Simpson of Aspen, CO and a brother-in-law, Robert Nordheim of Maitland, FL.
He is remembered by his many friends as the kindest, most compassionate and most generous man they have ever known.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:30 AM officiated by Fr. Matthew Marinelli. Those attending are kindly asked to arrive to the church by 10 AM to greet the family, sign the register, and take a donation envelope/prayer card.

Private cremation services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
