George John Meert, age 88 years, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008 at his home in Richboro, PA.
Born in Norfolk, VA, August 21, 1920, he was the son of the late George T. and Marie Lillian Wells Meert.
His working career spanned forty-three years with US Steel Corp., Irvin Works, PA, Fairless Hills, PA., and as Superintendent of Production Planning at E.T. Irvin-Vandergrift, PA before retiring in 1980. He received many awards and commendations with US Steel and the CYO.
He was a 1966 graduate of Rider College, Lawrenceville, NJ, with a degree in Business Management.
He served his country proudly and with distinction in the United States Army from October 1942 to October 1945 as an Infantryman in North Africa and the Italy Campaign during World War II.
A devoted Catholic and family man, he is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, June Rose Jaloski Meert, whom he married on July 1, 1943; two sons, John Michael Meert of Charlotte, NC, and Jim Meert of Flemington, NJ and daughters-in-law, Gizelle and Joanne; a brother, George T. Meert, Jr. of Murraysville, PA; a sister, Marie Josephine Daigle of St. Augustine, FL; a granddaughter, Jacqueline Marie Meert of Roselle, NJ, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in St. Magdalen Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
