George W. Amerman Jr, age 90, of Neshanic Station and most recently, Skillman, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 to be reunited with the love of his life, June Amerman.
George, better known as “Bill”, was born in Neshanic Station, N.J. on June 19, 1927, to George and Elsie (Neary) Amerman. Bill completed his primary education in the Branchburg schools and graduated from Somerville High School in 1944. Bill, a U.S. Army Veteran served in the Alaska Defense Command from 1946-1947. Upon his return, he attended New York University and earned a B.S. in Business Administration. Bill married June Stryker on April 7, 1951 and celebrated 63+ years of togetherness before her unexpected death in 2014.
As a lifetime resident of Neshanic Station, he was employed and eventually took over the family business, J.S. Amerman Lumber Co. Bill was a multi-talented skilled woodworker and dedicated many hours in his shop crafting beautiful pieces of furniture and pieces of wood art. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, travel, photography and storytelling.
An active citizen in his community, Bill volunteered and was President of the Neshanic Volunteer Fire Company (of which he became a LifeMember), a member of the Branchburg Township Historic Committee, President of Hillsboro Realty, Director of the State Bank of Raritan Valley, Past Master of Solomons Lodge #46 F&AM, and an Elder and Deacon of the Neshanic Reformed Church. Seven years ago, George and June sold their home in Neshanic and moved to Stonebridge at Montgomery in Skillman, NJ where he continued his active involvement in his new community.
While George had many accomplishments during his life, his greatest source of pride was his children and grandchildren. He cherished each one of them and the time he spent with them at the beach, fishing, attending their sporting events, and taking them on “adventures”.
He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Lynda and Courtney Van Kleeck of Colchester, VT and Carol and Ray Hawkins of Basking Ridge, NJ and his beloved grandchildren, Karen Van Kleeck of Waltham, MA; Sara Hawkins of Arlington, VA, Matthew Van Kleeck of Waltham, MA, Ashley and Clinton Banks of Denver, CO and Craig and Megan Hawkins of Dorchester, MA.
