Gerald Melo

Gerald Melo, child of God, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 at his home in Elizabeth, New Jersey at the age of thirty-nine. Born on May 22, 1975 in Somerville, NJ he was the beloved son of Stella Melo Cediel. A 1994 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School, Gerald was an avid athlete and sports fan—lacrosse, football and baseball amongst others. After graduating high school Gerald served in the United States Marine Corps. He attended Kean University and worked for many years as a supervisor, manager, and owner-operator in various transportation related businesses. Gerald was a tireless worker. His family and friends are forever grateful for the gift of Gerald’s life, for his gentle, generous, kind spirit and for his sense of humor and boisterous laugh. He was loved and he loved. Gerald touched many of us in countless ways and will be deeply missed. Surviving in addition to Gerald’s loving mother are his two beautiful children Olivia and Robert Melo of Linden and their mother Leigh Ann Melo; brother, Diego Melo and his fiancé Tanya Outkin of Flemington; brother, Steve Melo of Flemington; sister, Martha Osorio-Cediel and her partner Carole Byrd of Palm Coast, FL; sister, Angela Esparza and her husband Miguel Esparza and their two children, niece Isabel Esparza and nephew/godson Matthew Esparza all of Flemington; his Tio Bernardo and Tia Barbara of Flemington and his Tia Leo of Clinton Township, MI. He is also survived by many, many other members of his family including aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends here in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, South Dakota, Florida, Colombia and elsewhere. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 12 from 6-8 PM at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home located at 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 13 at 11 AM at St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church located at 105 Mine St, Flemington, NJ. A private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Leigh Ann Melo, mother of Olivia and Robert, at the following address: PO Box 452, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him, and may the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
