Gerald "Smitty" Smith

Gerald "Smitty" Smith, age 78 years, of Manchester Township, NJ, died Sunday. December 22, 2013, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ.

Born in Philadelphia, PA., January 12, 1935, son of the late Stephen and Rose Colello Smith, he had resided most of his life in Flemington, NJ, and had resided in Manchester Township since July 2013.

Smitty was a truck driver and machine operator for 3M Trucking and he also served in the New Jersey National Guard with the 2nd Armored Division.

His first wife, Shirley Miller Smith, died in 1999; a son, Gerald "Sock" Smith, Jr. died in 2008 and a sister, Helen Voorhees, also pre-deceased him.

Surviving are his second wife, Avis Gother Smith; two daughters, Diane Jurovcik of Bridgewater, NJ, and Vicky Perchaylo of Mt. Bethel, PA; two sons, Daniel Smith of Flemington, NJ and Jeffrey Smith of Riegelsville, PA.; a step-daughter, Dawn Marie Gother of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.; two sisters, Phyllis Smith of Sherburne, NY, and Cleata Staats of Bath, PA.; nine grandchildren and one step-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 30, 2013, at 11:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be in Holcombe Riverview Cemetery, Lambertville, NJ. Calling hours will be Sunday 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM.
