Gerald Thomas Fogarty, age 72, died Monday, June 15, 2020 at the Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township NJ.
Born July 18, 1947, in New Brunswick NJ, Tom was the son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Olesbary) Fogarty. He has lived in the Flemington area for more than the last 25 years.
After graduation from high school, Tom served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After his service to his country, he graduated from Thomas Edison State College with a Bachelors Degree in Engineering and went to work for AT&T as a Special Projects Engineer for the emerging computer hardware and software development teams. Upon his retirement from AT&T, with his skills and knowledge of the older, legacy computer systems, Tom added his unique talents as a computer consultant with Circuit Works in Flemington NJ.
Tom was a member of the Flemington Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 1829 and the Raritan Township Democratic Club for many years.
He loved to restore old cars, especially Corvettes and other classic Chevrolet’s. He was famous for his abilities to research a subject and answer questions on all sorts of subjects, however, his favorites included the history of the evolution of the modern computer.
Tom and his wife of more than 27 years, Dolores, loved to travel overseas to places like Italy, Ireland, and their annual trips to Aruba. However, a simple day trip to visit new and old places in the local area often inspired and brought him joy. Whether it was a long walk or a car ride to visit friends, Tom and Dolores treasured their time together.
For anyone that knew Tom, they likely experienced his genuine and caring nature and his passion for lending a helping hand to anyone who needed one and he will be truly missed by those who had the good fortune to know him.
Tom is survived by his wife, Dolores D’Altrui Fogarty, his three step-sons, Richard Vigliotti and his wife, Susan of Clark NJ, James Vigliotti and his wife, Lori of Stirling NJ, and Joseph Vigliotti of Tucson AZ, as well as his seven grandchildren, Ashley, Jory, Aaron, Aidan, Richie, Matthew, and Steven, and his two great-grandchildren, Grace and Abigail.
A private visitation followed by military honors will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
