Geraldine Wendlinger, age 92, died at her daughter's house on Friday December 20, 2013. Born February 28, 1921 in Flemington, NJ to Salvatore and Angela Lentine. She attended a one room schoolhouse during her childhood and graduated from Flemington High School in 1940. On September 20, 1953 Geraldine married Joseph Wendlinger and they began their family together.
Coming from an immigrant family, Geraldine lived through the Great Depression by helping on her family's farm. Just like other immigrant families, the Lentine’s worked to achieve the American dream and succeeded by building Flemington Block and Supply Company where Geraldine began working in the late 1930’s. She continued to work there until she retired in 2001 at the age of 80, only taking time to raise her children for a few years.
Geraldine will be especially remembered for her constant hospitality. When family or friends would come over, Geraldine would instantly run to her kitchen to prepare something. At Christmas time, she baked thousands of cookies each year which she would give away in colorful Christmas tins. This hospitality inspired a book to be written in her honor including many of her recipes along with tips of the trade from Geraldine.
She will be dearly missed by the many lives she touched.
Geraldine was the beloved mother of son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Anna Wendlinger, and daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Matthew Romanoski, as well as a treasured grandmother to her grandsons and grand daughter-in-laws Noah, Carolyn, Jeremy, Jessica and Christopher Romanoski. The whole family will miss Sunday dinners at Grandma’s which were not only filled with Grandma’s delicious food but so much family love.
