Gerard F. “Jerry” Duffy, age 83, loving husband, father, and grandfather, wonderful brother-in-law, uncle and devoted friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Saturday, January 31, 2015.
Born May 23, 1931 in the Bronx, NY, Jerry was the son of the late Patrick and Theresa (Turnbull) Duffy. He was raised in Brooklyn, and worked as a Manager for AT&T, retiring after 40 years in 1989. He was a member of the AT&T Pioneers, the Flemington Elks, and the Knights of Columbus of St. Joseph Church in High Bridge, NJ.
Jerry and his wife of 52 years, “Lovey,” travelled throughout the United States and overseas, making many treasured memories in each place they visited. Most of all, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his six grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents and his brother, Joseph Duffy, he is survived by his wife, Carmela “Lovey” (Fortunato) Duffy, of High Bridge, NJ, his three children and their spouses, Brian and Michele Duffy of Easton, PA, Susan and Dean Fleming of Oxford, NJ, and Janice Duffy and her fiancé, Keith Gibbons of Oxford, NJ. He was adored by his six grandchildren, who called him “Poppy,” Nicole, Erin and Craig Fleming, Jordan and Ian Duffy, and Matthew Gibbons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2015 at St. Joseph Church, 59 Main Street, High Bridge, NJ 08829, followed by interment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Annandale, NJ. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jerry’s name may be made to Hunterdon Medical Center Foundation, Cardiac Care Center, 9100 Wescott Drive, Suite 202, Flemington, NJ 08822.
