Gertrude Bonnema

Gertrude Bonnema, age 93, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at St. Francis Compassionate Care in Trenton, NJ. She lived in the Flemington area from 1964 until 2011, moving closer to her family in Mercerville, NJ.

Born December 13, 1921 in Duisburg, Germany, daughter of the late Doeke and Maria Margaretha (Peifer) Porte, she immigrated to the United States in 1947 after the marriage to her late husband, Marten Bonnema. Gertrude was a self-employed house cleaner for many years. She loved to read, travelling to Europe and other places, and most of all, enjoyed spending time with her family.

Predeceased by her husband in 1996, and by her son, John Bonnema, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and George Laudenberger of Mercerville, NJ, her eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 12 noon, Monday, August 3, 2015 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822, officiated by Rev. James DeVries. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Calling hour will be from 11 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
