Gordon G. Darkenwald, Jr., age 79 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at his home. He was born in New York, NY, May 28, 1942, son of the late Gordon and Gloria Dugan Darkenwald. Before recently moving, he resided in Bridgewater, NJ for forty-four years. Gordon (Gerry) was Professor Emeritus of Adult Education at Rutgers University, where he worked from 1974 - 2000. In 1980, he was awarded the Imogene Oakes Award for Outstanding Research (with Jack Mezirow and Alan Knox) for the book Last Gamble on Education. In addition, in 1985 he was awarded the Houle Award (with Sharan Merriam) for Adult Education: Foundations of Practice.
