Harold F. Mathews, age 91 years, of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Franklin Township, NJ, April 28, 1920, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Nora Opdyke Mathews. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin Township and was a lifelong farmer.
He was a Communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Pittstown, NJ; a life member of the Quakertown Fire Company; and a member of the Quakertown Recreation Club.
He was a 1939 graduate of Flemington High School, and was a former vice-chair of the Franklin Township Board of Adjustment.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in North Africa, Sicily, France, and Germany and was a Bronze Star recipient.
He was pre-deceased by five brothers: Russell, Delevan, Leland, Kenneth, and Raymond Mathews. Surviving are his wife of sixty-five years, Lillian Lamendola Mathews; three sons, Ronald Mathews of Franklin Township (Hunterdon), NJ, James Mathews of Franklin Township (Hunterdon), NJ; and John Mathews of Franklin Township, Somerset County, NJ; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM in St. Catherine of Siena Church, White Bridge Road, Pittstown, NJ. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
