Harold G. Wischner, age 93 years, of Blairstown Township NJ, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at House of the Good Shepherd LTC in Hackettstown NJ. Before moving to Blairstown three years ago, he lived most of his life in Sergeantsville NJ.
Born January 20, 1923 in Jersey City NJ, Harold was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Katske) Wischner. He moved at a young age with his family to Sergeantsville, working as a poultry and egg farmer, eventually marrying Eleanor Higgins.
While he did not complete a formal high school education, Harold “could fix anything,” having the uncanny ability to be taught once and then figure out how to fix something on his own, whether it was farm tractors or smaller pieces of equipment. He worked at the former Egg Auction in Flemington where he would “candle” the eggs before transport to the local markets. Harold later became an electrician and worked for the State of New Jersey for ten years.
Despite being an “avid napper,” Harold’s passions included fishing, hunting and bowling.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Edward Wischner. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Higgins) Wischner, his son, Ken Wischner, his daughter, Carol Gray, his granddaughter and her husband, Megan & Colin Stewart, his grandson, Jason Wischner, his sister, Dorothy Gilde, several nieces and nephews, as well as his cat, “Buster.”
Funeral services and interment in Rosemont Cemetery officiated by the Paster Alan J. Dunn, were private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ.
Memorial donations in Harold’s name may be made to Grace Covenant Baptist Church, 35 Court Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
