Harold R. Clawson

RINGOES - Harold R. Clawson died Oct. 31, 2002 at Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Township. He was 88. Born in Rocktown, he was the son of Raymond and Mary Golden Clawson, and lived in East Amwell Township most of his life. He graduated from Central High School in Pennington in 1935. Mr. Clawson was a lifelong farmer. His family farmstead on Old York Road in Ringoes was sold to the township several years ago to become Marion H. Clawson Park in memory of his wife. The park is being developed to become a recreation area within walking distance of Ringoes center. Mr. Clawson was formerly a township building inspector, a school bus driver for Hunterdon Central High School, and then a custodian at Central from 1982 to 1992, when he retired. He was a member of Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ringoes. A charter member of the Amwell Valley Ambulance Corps, he was also the oldest member of the Amwell Valley Fire Company Exempt Fireman's Association. His wife died in 1990. He is survived by four daughters, Virginia Perkovich and Sarah Perkovich, both of East Amwell Township, Barbara Pershyn of Big Pine Key, Fla., and Linda Fisher of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, Richard of Ewing Township; a brother, John of Whiting; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were held Nov. 5 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington, followed by burial in Harbourton Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Amwell Valley Fire Company, Box 76, or the Amwell Valley Ambulance Corps, Box 147, both Ringoes, NJ 08551.
