Harry B. Hunt Jr., 81, of Flemington died Friday, March 23, in the
Hunterdon Medical Center.
He was a Flemington Business Inspector, retiring in 1996 after many
years. He was a circulation manager for the Hunterdon County Democrat,
retiring in 1985 and before that a carpenter with Van Liew & Van Horn
in Flemington.
Born March 7, 1920, in Pennington, N.J., he was a son of the late
Harry B. Sr. and Helen Chamberlin Hunt. He had formerly resided in
Marshalls Corner, N.J., and in Flemington since 1946.
He was a member and former trustee of the Flemington Baptist Church.
He served in the Navy during World War II, serving from 1939-46 in
both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.
He was a graduate of Pennington High School.
A volunteer fireman for 51 years, he was a member of the Flemington
Fire Co., where he was chief from 1957-59 and Santa Claus for 30
years, and Flemington Fire Co. Exempt Fireman's Association.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Stryker; three sons, Harry
B. III of Flagstaff, Ariz., Alan K. of High Bridge and Richard S. of
Pickerington, Ohio; a brother, Clifford of Beaver Springs, Pa.; eight
grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A brother, Kenneth, died in 1995.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Flemington Baptist
Church, Main and Church streets, Flemington. Call 10 a.m. Tuesday to
time of services in the church.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Flemington.
The Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St., Flemington, is in
charge of the arrangements.
