Harry S. Maynard, age 97 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, passed away on Tuesday morning, August 20, 2024, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born January 30, 1927, in Vineland, NJ, he was the son of the late Elsie Brayman Maynard and Harry S. Maynard, Jr. He had formerly resided in Somerset County, NJ for most of his life, before moving to Flemington, NJ five years ago to be closer to family.
A hard worker, Harry left school early to go to work to support his family. He held various jobs throughout his life, including the longest employment as a Machine Shop Supervisor for Thermionic Products Co., North Plainfield, NJ.
In his spare time, Harry enjoyed listening to opera and classical music as well as solving the daily crossword puzzle and cryptograms. A jokester, he loved to come up with quick-witted “dad jokes” no matter where he was, even during his recent hospitalization. Additionally, he was an avid New York Mets fan and enjoyed taking his family to various flea markets.
Finally, he will be remembered as a great family man and as someone who was friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand.
The last of his four siblings, he was also predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, the late Bradford S. Maynard and his wife Audra Maynard, who died in 2020; as well as son-in-law’s, Robert Bodemer and Ruben Cotto.
Surviving are his children, Bryan Maynard of Pennsylvania, Brenda Cotto of Flemington, NJ, Lorraine Bodemer of Pennsylvania, Laura Ostroski and son-in law, Michael Ostroski of Glen Gardner, NJ. Also surviving are his niece and nephew, Deborah and Richard Kemp of South NJ; as well as twelve grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A visitation for relatives and friends will take place on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ.
